The karla caves near Pune hosts the best preserved Buddhist chappel in India, dating from the first century BC. Although it is a bit more remote than other sights, sometimes it can get crowded with local tourists. The chambers are fascinating so you'll find that you don't have enough time to visit all there is to be seen. Entrance fee:2 US$. Highly advisable.
