Sacred lake in Pushkar

Posted 1 year ago by avatar dominik in response to nicole's question: I’ve heard there is a sacred ceremony during the camel fair, this being the real attraction of Pushar in this period. (give a different answer) .

Yes, I heard that too. It is supposed to be a ceremony in memory of lord Brahma, Pushkar being the only place on earth that honors him. It is said that lord Brahma sat on a lotus flower created the universe from here. The spring which sustains the lake it is said to have come out from the spot where the petals fell in order to establish the place of the holly event, thus giving the lake its name - pushkar means pound created by a flower- and it is believed that the water of the lake is sacred. Many pilgrims come here to bath, trusting that the water will wash their sins away, will clear their judgment and will help them be in peace with the after life.
