The Visvanath Temple in the Old Centre has been the main Siva temple in Varanasi for over 1000 years. Although it was, repeatedly, a mosque, and again a temple, the golden building that hosts many Hindus is mainly atemple, rebuilt in the 18th century. It is open constantly, apart from the praying times.
